Ed Snider to Sign Copies of "God Bless the Spectrum" on October 7

Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider, who is synonymous with the Spectrum, will sign copies of the spectacular new commemorative book about the Spectrum entitled “God Bless the Spectrum” at the Barnes & Noble in Center City (Walnut Street and 18th Street) on Wednesday, October 7 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

“God Bless the Spectrum” is the new hardcover commemorative book produced to relive the thousands of great memories and storied history of the legendary Spectrum (arena) in Philadelphia, PA. The book, which features more than 200 color photos capturing the wonderful memories of “America’s Showplace,” retails for $24.95, is now available at Barnes & Noble, as well as at RememberTheSpectrum.com and at Fan Gear, the official team store and souvenir stands at the Wachovia Center.

“God Bless the Spectrum” was produced by the Philadelphia Daily News, in partnership with Comcast-Spectacor.

Snider is an iconic entrepreneur and true visionary in the sports and entertainment industry. His emergence as a leader in the Philadelphia Sports Market began in 1966, by bringing a National Hockey League franchise to the city, as the founder of the Philadelphia Flyers. He became the driving force behind the construction of the Spectrum and assumed control of the building in 1971.

Depicted in chapters, “God Bless the Spectrum” photographically spans the Spectrum with histories of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team, the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team, the college basketball games, the “other” sports, including minor league hockey, indoor lacrosse and indoor soccer.

One of the most impressive chapters of “God Bless the Spectrum” is the concert section, featuring many backstage, never-before-seen photographs from Roger Barone, a former employee at the Spectrum.

“’God Bless the Spectrum’ is a fantastic book about a very special place for millions of people, the Spectrum,” said Snider who wrote the foreword for the book. “The book brings back an immediate flood of emotions and personal memories for me. It uncovers some spectacular photographs of many of the world's top musicians backstage in the hallowed halls of the Spectrum. It also perfectly highlights some of the greatest moments in Flyers and Sixers history.”

Included in the book are stellar photos of the superstars who made the Spectrum “America's Showplace,” including Bob Clarke, Bernie Parent, Dr. J, Wilt Chamberlain, Charles Barkley, Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead, Elvis Presley, Diana Ross, Bruno Sammartino, Led Zeppelin, Bobby Knight, Christian Laettner, Joe Frazier, Billie Jean King, Olga Korbut and many other surprises.  “God Bless the Spectrum” is published by Camino Books, Inc., Philadelphia, PA.
