Talk about anticipation. It was certainly one of the most anticipated weekends in quite some time at the Wells Fargo Center last weekend, as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed on Friday, February 12. Adding to that, for the first-time in school history, the Villanova Wildcats Men’s basketball team was ranked No. 1 and tipped off against the visiting St. John’s Red Storm at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, February 13. Just before the Villanova game, the Philadelphia Flyers faced off against the New Jersey Devils. And, closing out the weekend, comedian Jeff Dunham and his puppets filled the stage at the Wells Fargo Center. Combined, the four events in three days drew more than 70,000 guests.

“At Comcast Spectacor we pride ourselves on providing a high-level of quality entertainment,” said John Page, President, Wells Fargo Center. “This weekend, we welcomed nearly 70,000 people in a three-day span to four events. Any one of these events on their own would be quite a highlight to our event calendar. Combining them into one weekend made it even more special.”

“At Comcast Spectacor it’s all about creating unforgettable memories for our customers,” added Page. “I’m particularly proud of our staff who rallied together and worked tirelessly to provide an unbelievable customer experience to our guests as they do each and every event.”

As the sold-out Springsteen crowd exited the Wells Fargo Center at 11:45 p.m. on Friday night, over 50 Comcast Spectacor operations personnel transitioned the arena floor from a concert set up to ice so the Flyers could face off at 1 p.m. Immediately following the Flyers game, the same crew changed the ice to hardwood in a matter of just over two hours so that Wildcats could take the court. Finally, the crew once again transitioned the arena, this time going from basketball to a concert set up.

What do 70,000 people attending four events in three days at the Wells Fargo Center consume? How about:

  • 11,360 Soda’s
  • 1,712 Popcorns
  • 2,724 Hot Dogs
  • 5,316 Soft Pretzels
  • 1,017 Chick-Fil-A Sandwiches
  • 2,400 Chicken tender and fries
  • 3,834 Lorenzo’s pizza slices
  • 10,640 Bottles of water
  • 3,321 Cheesesteaks
  • 5,493 Chickie’s & Pete’s Crab Fries

Additionally, Comcast Spectacor removed and recycled over 33 tons of trash from the weekend.

In the midst of hosting 31 events in February, the anticipation continues to build at Wells Fargo Center as the crew is preparing for a five-day, 11-show run of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents LEGENDS from Wednesday, February 17 through Sunday, February 21. The arena will immediately convert to a concert set-up after the circus departs on Sunday for country superstar Carrie Underwood on Monday, February 22.
